Unfortunately, I just found out a few hours ago that poor overworked and overwhelmed Sista Marybeth made a mistake when she booked me at The Blues Burghers on Black Friday, November 27th. Oops. Hey, it happens. Honest mistookies happen to the best of us.
Sista triple booked the club that night by offering the date first to Dan Dratch, then to Freddie Gasparini, and then finally to me. Dan will be doing the gig while me and Freddie lick our wounds along with left over Thanksgiving Day delights.
Sista Marybeth is learning that being a full time teacher, a full time music artist, AND a part time booking manager for a popular music venue ain't a piece of cake. Or a pumpkin pie.
To make up for the mistake, she gave me some dates in February and March,so it's all good. Sista Marybeth and The Blues Burghers still loves me. All's well that ends well.
Meanwhile there's a couple of fascinating projects I've been working on since I have so much down time right now due to the raging pandemic.
One project involves an invention I came up with to make it easier to play slide guitar. I drew up a rough draft of the device and sent it to a luthier friend of mine. The luthier is a former guitar student of mine. Hopefully he'll bang out a prototype soon and send it to me to try out. More about that in the weeks ahead.
The other project involves a book. I've been performing for 52 years and a lot of crazy things have happened to me in that time. I also have crossed paths with many famous blues artists as well as several well known rock 'n' roll and jazz artists over the years including John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Lightning Hopkins, Big Joe Turner, John Lee Hooker, Mama Thornton, and many more. I have stories to tell and I have a very talented and experienced writer who is collaborating with me. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you more about that writer soon. I've been compiling these stories for the last 25 or more years and have over 100. We will probably narrow that down to about 50 for the book.
Again, the gig is cancelled for Black Friday, but there's a lot going on right now. |
PLEASE NOTE
It is always a good idea to call a venue to confirm that we will in fact be appearing, to check on admission or cover charges, and to find out whether it is necessary to make a reservation. Thank you.
