Alan Wilkov and I are ready, willing, and chompin' at the bit to play a live duo gig on Saturday night in Palm Beach Gardens. It'll be outside, so it will be safer.
It's been too long. We miss gigging every week. If only somebody would take charge, follow the health experts' guidelines and get this virus under control. Too many people have suffered, and way too many have died. Otherwise, going out to a gig, or anywhere else is a gamble.
Come on out to the gig and have some fun.
Meanwhile, here are two pictures that my blues guitar playing ex-roomate Steve Freund found of me with the legendary vocalist, pianist, and songwriter Sunnyland Slim. Steve found the photos on the Library Of Congress website. The photographer was uncredited. The pictures were taken at Elsewhere in Chicago in 1977. I lived in Chicago for a few months in 1977 and 1978. And, I sometimes played with Slim when Steve couldn't make the gig. I also played Elsewhere with John Brim once a week, and with Floyd Jones, Homesick James, and Big John Wrencher 3 times a week. Chicago was off the charts in those days.

This is our first appearance at Downtown At The Gardens in Palm Beach. We were supposed to perform there on May 2 but that was cancelled due to the “you know what”. Featuring: Alan Wilkov (drums); and two time NY Music Award winner & IBC Semi-Finalist Robert Ross (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, & harmonica) performing from 6pm - 9pm outside the club. If the weather is bad we will probably still be outside but under cover. Great food, fantastic spirits, & great blues vibe. Please follow the social distancing and mask wearing guidelines. I will be taking on a limited number of dedicated guitar, bass, and harmonica students regardless of age or current level of expertise.
Robert is a two time New York Music Award winner and a New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee. Robert is known for a wide variety of blues, jazz, soul, country, rock ‘n’ roll, folk, and other roots music. Robert worked and recorded with Big Joe Turner and also worked with Lightnin’ Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, Big Mama Thornton, Brownie McGhee, Memphis Slim, and other legends. One of Robert’s songs was recorded by Johnny Winter, and two other songs appeared on the soap opera “All My Children”. The Robert Ross Band has released 7 internationally distributed CDs and toured two continents. Robert has been teaching guitar for more then 25 years privately, and 13 years in NYC public schools. Robert’s work in the schools has been cited by the NY State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) for “best practices in arts in education programming”.
Lessons are $40 per half hour, and $60 per hour.
