The Robert Ross Band

I got through two rounds of the quarterfinals in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) and moved on to the semifinals. It was pretty cool. Met a lot of people who weren't wearing masks, and even though I usually was wearing a mask, I contracted CoVid19 whileI was there.

I was in Memphis from May 5 to May 10. I had just gotten my second booster (4th shot overall) a week before arriving on Beale Street on April 28. Unfortunately you need at least 3 weeks for the booster to kick in. These shots take time to stimulate the antibodies needed to fight off the virus. And of course the protection they afford you does not last more than about 6 months. Then you need a booster. I happened to need that booster and got it a week before arriving on Beale St.

I developed a sore throat on Thursday May 12. Then 2 volunteers with the IBC that we met in Memphis told us they tested positive. The sore throat got worse on Friday and I used a home test kit but it showed negative.
Even so, that booster might have helped a little along with the vitamin and mineral regiment I always take including vitamin B complex, C & D3, zinc, and magnesium. Still my fever peaked at 102 orally which is actually closer to 103. I had a sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue, runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing, and coughing along with the fever.

Sunday we went to urgent care. They gave me an anti-viral called paxlovid. You take 3 pills twice a day for 5 days. Twelve hours later my fever was down to 99.5 and stayed down for the duration. My symptoms abated too. The sore throat vanished as did the headache. Day after day I got better and stronger. Tomorrow at noon I will take the last pills and I'm done.
The Department of Health called me Wednesday to say that I can stop the quarantine as long as I have no fever for 24 hours even if the other symptoms linger. My fever is long gone. I am no longer infectious.

My first gig since Memphis! I am playing on Saturday in Boynton Beach. Harvey Rosenfield will be sitting in with me using all his numerous percussion toys. He will also be bringing a gaggle of his friends to party hardy along with us. Don't miss the fun.
